The Controversy Surrounding Kim Kardashian’s Body Makeup

It seems like the Kardashian family is always in the midst of controversy and the latest one is all about Kim’s new makeup product. As part of her KKW beauty brand, Kim recently released a line of “body makeup” – essentially foundation for everywhere other than your face.

To a lot of people, this probably sounds great. Being able to cover a weird birthmark on your leg or the bright blue veins on your hand? Sure! Why not? After all, using body makeup is a common practice in the modeling industry. Regular people should be able to do it, too!

Well…not so fast.

Kim Kardashian’s Body Makeup Controversy

Ever since the news of the body foundation came out, Kim has been receiving tons of backlash. It mostly started when The Good Place star Jameela Jamil publicly criticized the product on Twitter. Jameela questioned the need for body makeup and stated that women should accept their body’s flaws, such as stretch marks or scars.

Jameela is known for being a major advocate for self-acceptance and body positivity,. She has spoken out on eating disorders and accepting your body as it is. Part of this is because she herself has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that causes skin fragility and easy bruising. She believes that women should not be encouraged to hate their bodies or change themselves, so it’s no surprise that she would have a few choice words about the idea of body makeup.

This isn’t the first time Jameela has spoken out about body positivity or even the first time she’s spoken out against the Kardashians! (She made headlines a few months ago when she spoke out against Khloe Kardashian promoting weight loss teas.) Do you agree with Jameela, though?

If you ask us, we agree. We also don’t agree. Yeah, we’re on the fence with this one.

Our Thoughts On Body Foundation

See, here’s the thing: We do think that you should love your body and accept whatever may be perceived as “flaws.” Your scars, stretch marks, birthmarks, and cellulite are part of your body. Therefore, they’re part of you. There’s nothing wrong with these things and they are nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

At the same time, your body is yours to do what you want with it. If you want to cover your scars or stretch marks, that’s your business. You should be free to do whatever you want with your body. That means showing what you want to show and hiding what you want to hide. Also, for what it’s worth, body makeup can actually be a good tool for certain things, like covering tattoos if you work somewhere that prohibits them.

We don’t know if the KKW body foundation is going to do well. (Although everything with the Kardashian name on it seems to…) What we do know is that it’s your own personal choice to use a product like this. There is no right or wrong answer. So go grab some KKW body makeup…or don’t. Either way, you look great!
