When it comes to beauty standards, the bar is raised higher and higher all the time. Somehow, we find a way to come up with some new, over-the-top ways to improve our appearance and the newest beauty trend is certainly a great example of this. Remember a little while back we enlightened you to the phenomenon of “butt facials?” You may have thought that new trend was absurd – but wait until you hear about the latest cosmetic craze!
What Are Vulva Beauty Products?
There’s an all-new subset of products taking the beauty world by storm and you probably won’t believe us when we tell you what they are. We have recently learned that women all over the world are going totally wild for vulva beauty products. Yeah – you read that right: vulva beauty products.
We’ll give you a second to pick your jaw up off the floor. (We had to do the same…)
Okay, so what exactly is a beauty product for your vulva? Well, let’s start with explaining what the vulva actually is. For those of you who failed human anatomy, the vulva refers to the external female sex organs. This includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibular bulbs, vulval vestibule, urinary meatus, the vaginal opening, and Bartholin’s and Skene’s vestibular glands. Basically, it’s everything outside of the vaginal canal.
Now, back to the original question: What is a vulva beauty product? It turns out, there are now a variety of products targeted towards your “lady bits.” From moisturizers to anti-aging serums, these products are all designed to give you a prettier vulva – whatever that is. They claim to make your genitals look smoother, younger, and more radiant. Because after all, women spend a lot of time worrying about how radiant their vulva is, right?
Riiiiight. *eye roll*
So why on Earth would there be beauty products for this area of the body? Honestly, who knows? Perhaps our obsession with unattainable beauty standards has reached its peak…or its rock bottom. What we do know is this: Doctors are actually warning women to steer clear of these products. It turns out, beauty products aren’t meant for your genitals. Go figure! The ingredients in many of these products can actually lead to infections, severe irritation, and in some cases, reproductive damage. Yikes.
How sad. It looks like vulva beauty products aren’t a great idea after all. We would’ve never guessed! All we have left to say is this: Ladies, leave your genitals alone.
